Questions

Things people ask before they sit down

What is Venice Sit Club?

A club with exactly one activity. We pick a seat, we take it, and we stay in it for about forty five minutes. Then we get up slowly and complain about it. There is no running, no pace group and nothing to track.

Is this just an excuse to drink beer in a chair?

Partly, yes. It is an extremely well organised one. We have rules, a rulebook, a mascot and a merchandise line, all in service of sitting down.

Where does Venice Sit Club meet?

The first sit is being scheduled. Join the list and you will get the time and place before anyone else. Venice is the home chapter, and sits move around: a bench, a bar patio, the back of a comedy show.

Do I have to drink?

No. Plenty of people sit with a coffee and nobody notices or cares. Sitting is the only mandatory part.

How much does it cost to join?

Nothing. No dues, no signup, no app, no membership to renew. Turn up and sit down. The club has no treasury, so nobody is collecting anything and nobody owes anybody a round.

How long is a sit?

The main set is forty five minutes. It routinely overruns, because nobody involved has anywhere else to be.

Do I need to bring a chair?

No. Bring one if you want to be comfortable. The ground is sanctioned, a curb is sanctioned, and a bar stool is arguably the finest chair ever built.

Can I come on my own?

Plenty of people do, and plenty of people turn up with four friends and talk to nobody else all morning. Both are correct. Sitting down next to a stranger is the easiest way to meet one, but nobody is going to make you do it.

How fit do I need to be?

You need to lower yourself into a chair and, eventually, get back out of it. We can help with the second one.

Is this a real club or a joke?

It is real, it is weekly, and it has rules. It is also profoundly stupid. Those two things have never once been in conflict.
